Meet My Forever Deodorant

FIVE YEARS in the making and it is worth putting on a pedestal for soooo many reasons, which I am excited to share below!

For veterans of the clean beauty journey, you already know that finding a non-toxic deodorant that works can be difficult. Well, I am happy to share that it is HERE. I have been using Beautycounter’s Clean Deo for several months now (as a consultant we get to test drive products before launch), and I can honestly say I LOVE IT. It glides on easily, doesn’t leave any white residue or “pill”, it smells amazing, absorbs wetness (thank you, non-gmo cornstarch + baking soda), neutralizes odor very well, and I feel fresh all day, every day. My favorite scent right now is the lavender, which is so soothing and has a hint of sweet vanilla!

Why does clean deodorant matter? Conventional deodorants and antiperspirants can contain several harmful ingredients. For starters – aluminum is typically used in antiperspirants and and can plug sweat ducts and prevent the body’s natural detox process (and sweating is SO IMPORTANT as it helps to remove heavy metals from our body). Fragrance is another problem…”fragrance” can be code for over 3,000 different ingredients which aren’t disclosed, and are particularly harmful since they can hide harmful classes of hormone-disrupting chemicals like phthalates and allergens. Also included in conventional deodorants? Triclosan (classified as a pesticide), Proplylene glycol (can cause damage to the central nervous system, liver and heart), and Parabens (hormone disruptors – a HUGE no-no, especially for young girls).

Now that we’ve accomplished that choosing a clean deodorant is unquestionably better for your health, let’s address the elephant in the room – the $28 price tag. Um, what?! The average clean deodorant costs around $13 so why the high price tag (aside from more expensive, sustainably sourced ingredients?). The sustainable, refillable case (visual below) reduces water use, fossil fuel use, and greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 47%, and the refills are a much more reasonable $18. Your pits and the planet will thank you!

Love the refill component!!

Other miscellaneous but important details:

New to clean deodorant? Your underarms may need a few weeks to detox before you experience ultimate freshness. When I was transitioning from conventional deodorant I did a two week armpit detox, cleansing my underarms a couple of times a day using the Charcoal Cleansing Bar and the Charcoal Mask to assist with the detoxification process.

Do you have sensitive skin? My underarms are super sensitive and I have had no issues whatsoever with the Clean Deo, nevertheless I recommend a patch test – do a quick swipe on the inside of your wrist before using.

The Clean Deo, $28 USD. Refill, $18 USD. Click here to shop. Your pits AND the planet will thank you.
